Come By The Hills recounts in song and story , the adventures of a yound man in Scotland's 19th century and how fortunes folly takes him from his home and family in the islands off the north coast of Scotland to a new life on the east coast of Canada. His travels on foot across the land so lovingly described to him by his grandfather leads him into a series of adventures that see him sentenced to a penal colony in Botany Bay for a crime he did not commit to the meeting of a young woman he woudl eventually follow thousands of miles to a new land. The story is told through the interweaving of an orginal script by Brian McKay and the traditional songs of Scotland
