Young song writer debuts her song, 'One Day'!
Date Posted: 21/12/2016
Every year we have the pleasure of working with hundreds of very talented kids in our community. We are constantly wowed with how much returning youth grow each year. Katie is no exception. While auditioning for our Artistic Director, David Nairn, earlier in the fall, Katie chose to sing the beginning of her song, One Day as her vocal piece. We’re so very excited and proud to say that she was able to debut her song in front of three festive audiences as part of the T.O.Y.S. choir’s production of Christmas in T.O.Y.S. Land earlier this month. We asked Katie to tell us a little about herself and why she chose to write this song. Thanks Katie, for sending us your bio (below) and congratulations on your hard work! (And make sure you check out the video at the bottom of this post!)

"I am 12 years old and have had a lot of support in exploring my love of music. I have been taking music lessons (piano and vocal) with Pamela Scott (PS Studio) and her team for the last three years. I LOVE being a part of T.O.Y.S. (Theatre Orangeville Youth Singers) and have been a T.O.Y.S. member for the last four years. I love learning from the T.O.Y.S. directors, Dennis and Amy and appreciate all the opportunities they have given me and how it has helped me build my confidence. I am also a part of my school’s Choir and Ukulele club, and have benefitted greatly from the guidance of my music teacher, Ms. Stevenson.
I have written many songs to express my passion for music and singing. Last year I wrote the song Freedom Isn’t Free to honour all the people that have served their country in war. Freedom Isn’t Free is not only about the men and women in the war but the family’s who were left behind by someone they loved. I sang the song at my school’s Remembrance Day assembly in 2015 and at the Bravery Park fundraiser in 2016. I was also given the opportunity to sing the National anthem at an Orangeville A’s game in 2016 and hope to do that again this year.
I started writing my own Christmas song, One Day in 2016 because of my love of Christmas. I feel it is a song that shows the real meaning of Christmas. For me Christmas is about being together with my family and keeping traditions alive. I feel honoured that I was given the opportunity to premiere this song at the T.O.Y.S. show this year, Christmas in T.O.Y.S. Land.
I have had a passion for music all of my life and hope that I can inspire people with my music just as others have inspired me. I truly appreciate all of the opportunities that I have been given in Orangeville to express my love of music and to share my own songs with the community."
