The Miracle of Christmas is that it Happens!

Date Posted: 01/12/2016

Is anybody else feeling ambushed by Christmas? Not a card written, present purchased or menu planned...this is going to be one slap-dash celebration which I am thinking will boil down to the essential...just being with the ones we love for as long as time permits.

Will there be turkey? There will be turkey. Will there be stockings? There will be stockings. A tree? Yes. Do I know the details of how or what or when? No, but I have faith. They will happen. This is how we operate at the theatre. Three weeks before a show opens, the actors assemble for the first time. Our lighting and sound designers have few details, but they have faith. There will be lights. There will be sound...and costumes and props and all the other countless details that make up a live theatre production.

My new favourite expression is one I learned from one of the busiest people I know, Beckie Morris, our production manager and brilliant designer of the set for Miracle on 34th Street. This set is like an antique toy with multiple moving parts. The play itself is massive...18 scene changes...all accommodated on our modest stage. How does Beckie do it? With lots of help, of course, but also because she lives by the motto: "The next thing is the most important thing." I believe what that requires is not stressing about all the things you can't possibly do in the limited hours of a day...just get down and get done the next thing on the list. So the next thing on my list is to invite you to our Christmas show. It previews today, the first day of December (!) and runs to the night before the night before Christmas, Friday Dec. 23rd.

This is the busiest time of the year...but also the most wonderful time. We're doing what we've done as a family for years, walking over to the theatre the last night of the run, to see what magic Theatre Orangeville has woven for us again this year.

Think about coming to our Christmas Miracle on 34th Street, but don't think too hard or wait too long, because in a blink...you'll miss your chance.

Make us your next thing. You won't regret it.
