The Last Christmas Turkey sets TOV box office record!

Date Posted: 07/03/2018

Theatre Orangeville just set a new box office record with its latest Christmas show. The Last Christmas Turkey - The Musical played to sold-out houses through the month of December and has now become the best-selling Canadian work in the 25 year history of the Theatre Orangeville stage.

Written by playwright Dan Needles and composer Clive VanderBurgh, the show was created through the theatre’s New Play Development Fund which has nurtured new work by a number of Canadian playwrights and composers. The Last Christmas Turkey premiered Nov 30, 2017 and played to capacity crowds for 28 performances, including 10 school matinees.

The show tells the story of two young children who take in an abandoned turkey, only to find that it was supposed to be the guest of honour at the local church Christmas supper. The children enlist the help of a cat, an owl and a skunk to protect their new friend.

Based on a puppet show that Needles wrote for his local church 15 years ago, the musical features 16 new songs by VanderBurgh and a cast of eight actors, including leading roles for two children, played in this production by local young acting sensations Kyla Johanis and Liam Macdonald.

“The rave for this show has been pouring in from our patrons ever since it opened,” said artistic director David Nairn. “I know Dan and Clive have created a new Canadian holiday classic.”
