Sweet! Sweet! Summer Romance!
Date Posted: 20/10/2017
Fall may be finally here, but if summer’s sultry memories still linger and you find yourself playing what if, I wonder, or whatever happened to, then Sugar Road is the perfect Fall confection.

A boy and a girl on a warm summer night share a moment of romance at an amusement park called Sugar Road set somewhere up the road in place called Elmvale. Twelve years later, he’s a rising country star with a song on the charts (Listen Here) and she owns the park that’s about to host him for a country music festival. Sugar Road has seen better days and so have Jesse and Hannah. He thinks she’s ignored him all this time. She thinks he’s forgotten she exists. It’s sweet and it’s only half the story. Some of the funniest lines are saved for Caroline and Ray, who only want to save Hannah from heartache.
Sugar Road is a World Premiere, by rising star playwright Kristen Da Silva, and one of at least 40 plays Theatre Orangeville has been proud to present as part of its ongoing commitment to new Canadian works. This is exactly the kind of show that Nancy Frater’s Authors on Stage (Link) literary series supports. So you can do two things in the next couple of weeks to support our amazing local cultural scene.
Step into the Opera House between Oct. 19 and Nov. 5, smell popcorn and remember the sweetness of summer love at Sugar Road…and on Oct. 25 and Nov. 16th help authors support playwrights and Theatre Orangeville bring more great Canadian work to your local professional stage.
