Celebrate the Stories We Share as Women
Date Posted: 06/03/2020

There’s a moment when a truth becomes so persistent that it demands to be told.
That moment and that truth came for Alison Lawrence after attending a theatre performance with friends. The conversation quickly zeroed in on why women and especially women of “a certain age” aren’t seeing themselves on stage.
Alison, a playwright and actor herself, knew she had rich subject matter for her next work.
Whether widowed or divorced, we all have friends who reside in this quadrant of the female experience. Some move on and build busy, meaningful, new lives. Others are stuck in what should have been. Some are exploring new relationships. Some are terrified by the thought of intimacy after decades of monogamy. Some have kids. Most have aging parents. Many are sandwiched in between, trying to gracefully, or not so gracefully, juggle disparate demands.
This is the reality that Alison explores in her new play, Too Close to Home, premiering on the Theatre Orangeville stage March 12 to 29. At times funny and touching, this is a play that lives up to its name. When reality hits us too close to home, it’s because it rings with truth and validates who we are as women. Call the box office now!
